True Riches in a World of Comparison

“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?”
Luke 16:10–11 (NIV)

The Narrow Path Feels Hard Because It Is

Let’s be honest: one of the hardest things about walking the narrow path is seeing how easy and comfortable the broad road appears for others.

You look around and wonder:

  • “Why does everyone else seem to be thriving?”

  • “Why am I the only one saying no to things that look so normal to everyone else?”

  • “Why do I feel behind when I’m trying to walk in obedience?”

This is the tension of the humble heroine way:
You’re choosing a hidden life—a life that trades quick validation for quiet faithfulness.
You’re choosing to build eternal wealth in a world obsessed with visible success.

And some days, it feels like loss.

Misusing Worldly Wealth: The Golden Calves of Today

When Jesus said, “If you have not been trustworthy with worldly wealth…”
He wasn’t just talking about financial planning or giving to charity.

To me, this verse is a warning.

If what you’ve been given in this world becomes a tool for self-glory, constant consumption, or building golden calves (idols) for yourselves—then you’ve missed the purpose.

Worldly wealth becomes untrustworthy when:

  • It’s used to feed comparison

  • It builds a life God never asked us to build

  • It turns into idols that sit on shelves, in bank accounts, or behind curated online lives

The narrow path is about learning to say:
“God, I want to use what You give me to glorify You, not build a monument to myself.”

That’s the humble heroine way.
And it’s very rare.

True Riches Are Often Invisible

True riches are not in your bank account, your resume, or your Instagram feed.
They are treasures like:

  • Deep intimacy with God

  • Discernment and peace

  • Endurance in trials

  • Joy that doesn’t depend on circumstances

  • Wisdom that guides others gently

These are the gifts God entrusts to those walking the narrow path.
And they are far more valuable than what the world offers.

So if you’ve felt poor in worldly terms—know this:
You may be rich in ways most will never see or understand.
