“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”
Luke 9:23

There’s a kind of Christianity today that looks more like a luxury cruise than a battleship.

It’s soft. It’s comfortable. It’s obsessed with personal ease and polished appearances. It avoids discomfort at all costs. It calls compromise “grace” and labels spiritual boldness as “judgmental.”

But God is not calling His daughters to cruise-control Christianity.
He’s raising humble warriors who are willing to be misunderstood, who count the cost, and who step onto the battlefield even when the culture calls them crazy.

You Were Not Called to Be Comfortable

The narrow path is not an easy one. Jesus said so Himself. And yet, how many Christians are shocked when obedience requires discomfort? Or when truth brings conflict?

Let’s be honest: we’re surrounded by a culture that worships ease.
Even in the church, there’s pressure to soften the message so we don’t scare anyone away. But God never said the truth would be easy—He said it would set us free.

Following Christ is not for the faint of heart. But if you’re walking with Him, you don’t have a faint heart—you have a courageous one, shaped by the Spirit and refined through trials.

Humility Is Not Weakness

Too often, Christians confuse humility with passivity. We think that being quiet, agreeable, and never rocking the boat is “Christlike.”

But let’s look at Jesus.

He was humble—and He overturned tables.
He was compassionate—and He called religious leaders vipers.
He was loving—and He walked straight into confrontation with darkness.

He didn’t go around trying to be “nice.”
He was kind—but kindness is different than niceness.

The Danger of Being “Nice”

Nice is polished. Nice seeks approval. Nice avoids conflict.
But sometimes, “nice” is just a mask for fear or pride—fear of rejection, pride in being liked.

True kindness, the kind that flows from the Spirit of God, is bold enough to tell the truth—even when it’s uncomfortable.

“Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.” — Proverbs 27:6

Don’t confuse flattery with friendship.
The people who truly love you will risk your disapproval to tell you what is real.

Jesus Was a Lion and a Lamb

There’s a modern myth that the Old Testament God is harsh and the New Testament Jesus is soft. But that’s a distortion of Scripture.

Jesus was both tender and bold.
He fed the hungry—and He rebuked the proud.
He forgave the sinner—and He confronted the demonic.
He wept over Jerusalem—and He resisted the devil in the wilderness.

The world wants to reduce Jesus to a smiling, non-confrontational motivational speaker.
But Jesus was—and is—a King. A Commander. A Warrior.
And He is returning as a Lion.

Where Do You Stand?

So, ask yourself honestly:

  • Have you settled into comfort instead of battle-readiness?

  • Are you confusing “nice” with love?

  • Have you silenced truth in the name of peace?

Sister, if you’ve felt the stirring in your spirit—that holy discomfort—that sense that you were made for more than shallow faith… you’re right.

God is raising up a remnant. And He’s calling you to be part of it.

Perfection is not needed. A heart of willingness opens the door.

Closing Prayer

Lord, I confess where I’ve chosen comfort over obedience.
I no longer want to blend in when You’ve called me to be set apart.
Teach me to be humble and bold, gentle and fierce, soft-hearted and strong in spirit.
I don’t want to be “nice”—I want to be kind, truthful, and led by Your Spirit.
Equip me for battle. Strengthen my heart. I surrender to the path You’ve called me to walk—no matter the cost.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

Reflection Prompt

Where in your life have you settled for being nice instead of being truthful?
Where might God be calling you to rise, risk, and speak with love and holy boldness?
