There are two kinds of simplicity in today’s world.

The first is trendy. It's minimalist, aesthetic, Instagrammable. You know the type—neutral-toned decor, white space, capsule wardrobes. It's marketed as peace and clarity, but underneath, it’s often another form of performance, control, and consumerism. It's simplicity as a product, not simplicity as a conviction.

The second is countercultural. It's rooted not in style, but in spiritual resistance. It's the kind of simplicity that Jesus walked in. It's the kind that frees the soul, not just the calendar. It’s gritty, humble, and unpolished. It doesn’t care how it looks—it only cares who it serves: God, not man.

The Trap That The Masses Fall For All the Time

Life wasn’t always this complicated. After World War II, as industrialization ramped up, society changed. People began working for large corporations instead of with their hands, families became disconnected, and busyness became a badge of honor. The enemy whispered, This is progress.

But Scripture says otherwise:

“Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands… so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.”
1 Thessalonians 4:11–12

Did you catch that? Work with your hands. Not for the applause of bosses, not to survive the system, not just to keep up with rent—but to live quietly and independently, with dignity and Godly purpose.

Paul echoed this conviction when he said:

“…I am free and belong to no one…”1 Corinthians 9:19

He belonged to no one. His allegiance was to God alone.

The Lie About Kingdom Work

Many Christians today believe that if your work is spiritual, it must be free. They quote, “Freely you have received, freely give” (Matthew 10:8) as if Kingdom workers should have no needs or financial support. The crowd may think that spiritual people need to give their work for free, especially healing work. If people want healing, they don’t want to pay for it.

But what did God actually say?

“Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain,” and “The worker deserves his wages.”
1 Timothy 5:18

“The Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel.”
1 Corinthians 9:14

“Stay there, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages.”
Luke 10:7

God honors Kingdom work. And He commands that His workers be cared for. Is it possible that there is another way to interpret Matthew 10:8, the interpretation people resist because they don’t want to do it? The real meaning of "give freely" is not about refusing payment—it’s about giving without resentment, without strings, and without entitlement. Those who receive Kingdom work should give joyfully, not grudgingly, not with negative reviews of ministries.

The System Is Rigged—But God's Way Is Freeing

Our society forces 9-to-5 labor. You can’t rent an apartment, qualify for a loan, or even apply for many benefits unless you have a traditional job. If you lose your job and go on unemployment, you're pressured to give up self-employment or ministry dreams in exchange for "a real job." Real, by their definition.

But let’s be honest: That’s slavery, not freedom.

This system pressures you to trade your calling for comfort. To give up your seed-bearing work for God in exchange for a paycheck from Pharaoh.

Yet God’s way is different: aim to belong to no one. You can start small. How about grow one herb for your well-being? Plant some mint. Open your Bible beside a clay pot of rosemary.

“Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing…” - Ezekiel 47:12

“And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.”Revelation 22:2

God literally placed healing in the leaves. How about grow a tomato? It may not seem revolutionary, but it is. These are quiet acts of resistance. Acts of remembrance. Acts of alignment with God's way.

Why Simplicity Is Spiritual Warfare

Don’t be fooled. The enemy doesn't come waving flags—he creeps in subtly. Through well-designed schedules and respectable jobs that leave no room for rest, reflection, or righteousness.

That’s why the Humble Heroine Way matters.

You don’t have to wait until you have land or wealth or time. Start with what you have. One seed. One step. One whisper of surrender.

God’s lifestyle is freeing. But the world wants you chained—to a paycheck, a routine, a definition of success that makes you too busy to hear God’s voice.
